Bound Together

We are a group of ladies from the First Baptist Church in Washington, Michigan and we just began our club, Bound Together, in November 2007. We have enjoyed the fellowship and discussion around Even Now and A Time To Dance and A Time To Embrace. We have 15 members that range in age! We have been so blessed and encouraged by your books that we had to start officially meeting to discuss. We joked this fall, when many of us were on our Ladies Retreat and enjoyed a sunrise over lake, that Ashley Baxter should be present to paint it!

We had fun getting in the spirit of the book "Time to Dance" when we discussed it - some State fans were less enthused.

Christian Centre

We have 20 ladies on our book club list. We meet the first Monday of every month at Grahamstown Christian Centre. We each pay toward new books each month and also get a turn to buy books. It is very expensive to purchase books here in South Africa, we can usually purchase 5-6 new books with the money that is collected. After our opening with prayer, the person hosting for that evening introduces the new books. (They are displayed separate from the old books. We presently have over 250 to choose from.)

There is always great excitement and an urgency to get the newest/latest book from your favourite author (usually Karen!) We have a roster as to who selects first (If your name is at the top of the list you get first choice to pick one book. We then work through the list 3 times. The person on top of the list goes to the bottom of the list for the next month and works their way up again.

Something that is particularly wonderful about our book club is that in post-apartheid South Africa, we are a lovely mix of people of all backgrounds, denominations and race groups and we get along famously. Bound Together

We are thankful for the gift of "Life Changing Fiction" that brought us together over two years ago. Our journeys together through the lives of the characters we've met ~ at times has blurred with the reality of what someone has been going through. As a result, there has been friendships developed, tears unleashed, prayers answered and new perspectives gained. We have truly become BOUND TOGETHER!

Chat-A-Book

We are in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. We currently have 7 members in our bookclub and over the years have become very close friends. We meet the second Tuesday of every month at 7:30pm. The lady that hosts the bookclub evening receives money from each member to purchase books to add to our bookclub collection. She will then present them to the club at our meeting. We have many laughs and end up discussing about more than just our books. We love Karen Kingsbury books and are busy collecting them all.

Indian Hills Community College

We are a small bunch that meets once a month to discuss a book over lunch. We love to read many genres and this month we are reading the all Iowa reads book called Gillead.

We currently don't have a group photo but this is a pic of me who started the club. I am trying to get the club to read Even Now cause I read that and I fell in love with it from page one.

The Yadah, Yadah Book Club

We are a club of 11 (sometimes more) women from St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada, who meet the third Monday of every month in the home of one of the members. This year will be our third year together.

We had a wonderful Christmas present from the leader of our club, Heather Hooker, when she secretly arranged for us to speak to Karen at our December meeting.

On March 29th, we headed west to Windsor, Ontario (a two hour drive) to meet Karen at Blessings Bookstore.? We made a new friend from Windsor while standing in line waiting for Karen to sign our books and three of us came back the next day (leaving home at 5:30 AM)to meet our new friend, Sue, and to meet again with Karen, her mom, Anne, cousin, Pam and other lucky women like ourselves who won the opportunity to have breakfast with Karen.

We had a wonderful time and we think our club needs to take more road trips! We are enjoying Karen's books and can't wait for new releases.

Our name came from reading "The Yada, Yada Prayer Club" by Neta Jackson.? Now we all wear brightly coloured socks at every meeting, like the feet on the front of Neta's book.

John Paul II Collegiate Family Book Club

John Paul II Collegiate is a Catholic high school in North Battleford, Saskatchewan (Canada). This year, an idea came forth that maybe students and their parents could get together in the common goal of reading and discussing books. The idea took off and we ended up with 22 families. Our hope is that the number doubles next year. The last book we read was Karen's "A time to Dance," a beautiful story that, hopefully, will make for some meaningful and hearfelt conversations in the homes of our families.

We will be sure to have another of Karen's books on our list next year!

First United Methodist Church of Allen, TX Book Club

We are a group of approximately 15 women who meet together on the first Sunday of every month at the First United Methodist Church of Allen, Texas (just north of Dallas). We choose four books each year from a recommended reading list provided by UMW and then choose our remaining eight from suggestions made by the members. We read fiction, non-fiction and biographies.

In August of 2006 we were fortunate enough to get to talk with Karen during our club meeting to discuss her writing and the book we chose for that month, One Tuesday Morning. She generously shared her family time with us, letting us speak to her while she was at her son's soccer game! Since several of our members are teachers and we have one aspiring author, her insight into character creation, research and plot development offered us a look inside the day of a professional author. We plan to see "Gideon's Gift" together when it comes out in theaters this fall. All of us send you our thanks for sharing your time and expertise as a writer with us.

Burgundy Hat Ladies

This club consists of my mother, my aunt and myself. We decided to start exchanging each others books and see what we all have to say about them, see if our opinions are the same. We do not have a picture of the 3 of us yet but I will include one of myself to post. We hope that we can add more people to our club very soon!

Believers as Readers

Believers as Readers is a group of six ladies who meet the second Thursday of each month from September to June. We originally planned exploring a variety of authors; however after that first meeting in 2005 with Oceans Apart, everyone agreed to stay exclusively with Karen Kingsbury. Since then the butterfly has become our mascot, so to speak, and "Great is Thy Faithfulness" our song, and Jeremiah 29:11 has greater meaning to each of us.

Each month's gathering begins at 10:00 discussing the current book then finishes with lunch. The host trys to prepare lunch based upon a food or meal mentioned in the book. It was a pleasure receiving Karen's Spanish Casserole recipe earlier this year as mentioned in Reunion. Karen's Mom sent a wonderful e-mail along with the recipe.

We look forward to hearing from other book clubs and to all the Lord has planned for us through Karen's books. She is certainly writing God-ordained material that blesses everyone who comes in contact with her work.

Heavenly Bound Women

The Heavenly Bound Women Book Club from Ponchatoula, LA met for the first time in June to discuss Karen's book Oceans Apart. We had a wonderful time discussing forgiveness and second chances as well as munching on a variety of salads that everyone brought! We all are Karen Kingsbury fans and look forward to discussing more of her books in upcoming meetings. Our next Kingsbury read is One Tuesday Morning which we plan on discussing on September 11. Thanks, Karen, for encouraging our love of God and each other as we discuss the wonderful spiritual themes in your books. We look forward to hearing from other sister book club members for ideas and suggestions as we are all new to the idea of book clubs! Hope to hear from you soon!
