Commander Charles K. Springle

My son's father-in-law Navy Cmdr. Charles K. Springle died May 11, 2009 while serving during Operation Iraqi Freedom 52, of Wilmington, N.C.; assigned as an Individual Augmentee to the Army's 55th Medical Company; died May 11 from injuries sustained in a shooting. Also killed were Army Spc. Jacob D. Barton, Army Sgt. Christian E. Bueno-Galdos, Army Maj. Matthew P. Houseal and Army Pfc. Michael E. Yates, Jr. Charles Keith Springle, Ph.D. Memorial Scholarship Fund. This scholarship was established in memory of Charles Keith Springle, Ph.D. A 1984 graduate of the UNC School of Social Work who was killed in a Baghdad clinic shooting in May 2009 while providing mental health care to U.S. soldiers. The scholarship will support MSW students at the School of Social Work who are from military families or are interested in working with members of the military and their families.
