Active Soldiers and Heroes
Chris Slininger
United States Coast Guard
Our son Christopher entered the U.S. Army Reserves at 17, in the delayed entry program. He finished his boot camp and basic training, and then started college the following fall, thinking he wouldn't necessarily get deployed right away. He was wrong! He was at college for 5 days when he got activated, and had to pull out 24 hours later. It was a sad day, but our son trusted the Lord with His timing, and prepared to be deployed to Iraq. I was heartbroken, but I also knew the whole situation was in God's very capable hands. Our son served overseas for one year, between 2004-2005, and we are grateful to say he returned home safely, and in one piece. Christopher insisted on restarting college only a month after his return, which was extremely challenging emotionally. A year later, he met his wonderful girlfriend Mary, who later became his wife! Our son is still in the Reserves, for another 1.5 years, and has gone through so much. He has also been happily married for two years, finished college, and is now in chiropractor school! God is gracious, and His mercies are unending...we thank the Lord for our hero, Chris, as well as all our brave military men and women, who put their own lives on the line, for my freedom, and the freedom of a grateful nation. Thank you all, and thank you to your families. We know how much you have sacrificed. God is good, every single day!.
